Frequently Asked Questions
What is EndeavorOTC?
A mobile video game app clinically designed to improve ADHD symptoms, functioning, and attention – anytime, anywhere. For more information, visit www.endeavorOTC.com.
Who is EndeavorOTC for
EndeavorOTC is for adults 18 years and older with ADHD or those who experience inattention-related challenges that affect their quality of life such as diminished focus, inability to complete projects or tasks, keeping track of important items, and more. Because EndeavorOTC is indicated for adults 18 years and older, you will be asked to attest to your age upon sign-up. For more indication information, visit our Instructions for Use.
How does EndeavorOTC work?
Built with patented, FDA-authorized technology, EndeavorOTC uses a video game experience to strengthen your brain’s ability to focus. It does this by requiring you to do two simultaneous challenges at once: target and navigate. When targeting, you tap specific stimuli while letting other distractions go by. When navigating, you travel through a course to avoid obstacles. Doing both of these at the same time uniquely challenges and alters pathways in the brain, boosting attention and focus. As you progress, the game’s algorithm will measure your performance and adjust in speed and difficulty. In short, as you get better, it gets harder. This results in a personalized treatment experience for each individual, enhancing cognitive functions such as your ability to pay attention, multitask, and prioritize information.
How often do I need to play to see results?
For best results, we recommend playing the game approximately 25 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Our clinical study showed that the best results come with this routine for 6 weeks, although many participants showed substantial improvements in attention and clinical functioning with less play time. For more information about play time, visit our Instructions for Use.
Are there side effects associated with using EndeavorOTC?
There were no lasting or serious side effects experienced in our clinical trial for EndeavorOTC. Overall, 11 of the participants in the trial (5%) reported a treatment-emergent adverse device event, most commonly nausea (1.8%) and headache (1.4%). There were no serious adverse device events.
What are the results from the clinical trial studying EndeavorOTC?
EndeavorOTC was studied in over 220 participants over a 6-week period. In our pivotal trial, EndeavorOTC improved ability to focus* and quality** of life in adults ages 18+ with ADHD. Improvements in attention were nearly 7x larger than those seen in the pivotal trial that supported EndeavorRx’s† FDA authorization for kids 8-12 with ADHD.
*As measured by at least a 1.4 point improvement on the Test of Variable of Attention (TOVA®) Attention Composite Score. The TOVA measures attention and other functions that assess the ability to focus. Internal data on file.
**As measured by the validated Adult ADHD Quality of Life Scale (AAQoL). Internal data on file. †EndeavorRx® is FDA-authorized, supported by 5 clinical studies involving over 600 children with ADHD. In our randomized, controlled clinical study¹, EndeavorRx improved objective attention in children with ADHD ages 8-12. Patients played for ~25 minutes per day, 5 days per week, for 4 weeks – and a more recent trial demonstrated that a second month of treatment can lead to increased benefits. To learn more about EndeavorRx, indications for use, and how to get a prescription for your child, visit EndeavorRx.com. ¹ Kollins et al, Lancet Digital Health 2020. Data from a “Yes-No” Exit Survey.
Can I use EndeavorOTC if I am already on medication? Will it be effective?
Yes. While EndeavorOTC users don’t have to be on other medications or treatments for their focus, it absolutely can be used alongside tools for attention. In fact, in our clinical study of EndeavorOTC, those participants that were on stimulant medication experienced just as much benefit, if not more by some measures.
What does “first generation” treatment mean?
This is the first generation of our product for adults that still includes the core technology that improves attention and focus. We will be making continuous improvements to the user interface and features to provide users with the best experience possible. We expedited the availability of the first generation of our product for adults given the treatment crisis affecting the ADHD community.
Is EndeavorOTC authorized by the FDA?
At this time, EndeavorOTC has not been authorized by the FDA. However, EndeavorOTC is built with the same technology behind EndeavorRx, the world’s first FDA–authorized prescription video game treatment for pediatric ADHD. Learn more about EndeavorRx, EndeavorOTC’s Mission, and Akili, the maker of both treatments.
What is Focus Score?
The Focus Score measures how quickly and accurately you can complete a task despite distractions during EndeavorOTC treatment. The goal is to give you an easy way to track your focus improvement from your baseline Focus Score.
At the start of treatment, we’ll provide you with a personalized target score. If you reach this score, data from our clinical study in adults with ADHD predict you are more likely to see meaningful improvements in your ADHD-related symptoms and focus.
As measured by improvement on the TOVA® ACS. Changes in the Focus Score are statistically significantly related to changes in TOVA and other outcomes. Treatment results may vary. Internal data on file.
What does my Focus Score target mean for me?
Our clinical trial data indicate that people who hit their Focus Score target are more likely to see meaningful improvements in ADHD-related symptoms.
In our six week study, increased Focus Scores predicted improvements in ADHD symptoms and quality of life. Those who increased their Focus Score were more likely to report improved ability to:
- Complete projects and tasks on time
- Balance multiple tasks at once
- Keep track of important items like their wallet and keys
As measured by improvement on the TOVA® ACS. Changes in the Focus Score are statistically significantly related to changes in TOVA and other outcomes. Treatment results may vary. Internal data on file. As measured by the validated Adult ADHD Quality of Life Scale (AAQoL). Internal data on file.
How is Focus Score technically calculated?
Your Focus Score can range between 0-100 and is calculated exclusively from gameplay mission data. The score blends three primary parts of mission performance together:
- Navigation ability
- Speed in collecting targets
- Accuracy in selecting targets
We statistically analyzed how individual Focus Scores were related to key results from our clinical trial participants to understand how Focus Score was related to improvements in ADHD-related symptoms and quality of life. The typical target Focus Score improvement will be an increase between 12 to 34 points depending on a person’s starting Focus Score or “baseline”. Based on our clinical trial analyses, reaching this target should be achievable in six weeks depending on a user’s commitment to gameplay (the more you play, the better results you can expect!).
How will my Focus Score change over the course of six weeks?
The typical target Focus Score improvement will be an increase between 12 to 34 points depending on a person’s baseline. Reaching this target should be achievable in six weeks depending on a user’s commitment to gameplay (the more you play, the better results you can expect!). That said, progress will vary by person and not all progress is linear. Many players will see a few flat Focus Score updates or even declining Focus Score updates throughout the six weeks. This is common and does not mean that meaningful results can’t be reached. In fact, just the opposite, this could suggest the algorithm has increased the challenge as the person is strengthening their mental processes. So no change in the Focus Score likely indicates the person is performing as well as before, but at more difficult tasks.
If I am already playing, will I have a Focus Score?
If you had already started EndeavorOTC prior to the release of the Focus Score feature, you will be given access to your current Focus Score and updates on your score as you continue treatment. We do not have enough data from you to calculate an accurate personalized target; however, you can use the 12 – 34 point increase range to calculate your goal. You can also compare your progress to those from the clinical trial who engaged in the six-week treatment with the provided percentiles. If you have questions about how you apply this, please reach out to email@example.com.
If I have hit my target Focus Score, am I done?
Your Focus Score will range between 0-100, and your initial target will likely be an increase between 12 and 34 points from your baseline. For the vast majority of people, this will leave room for continued improvement in Focus Score and overall cognitive abilities as well as ADHD symptom management. While breaks are encouraged, the more you play the better the results you can expect! In general, people that finished our clinical trial with higher Focus Scores had greater improvements in real-world symptoms…encouragement to keep going!
If I hit my target Focus Score, does that mean I don’t have ADHD?
No, it does not mean you no longer have ADHD. Instead, our clinical data demonstrate that a target improvement in Focus Score was associated with meaningful improvements in ADHD-related symptoms at the end of six weeks of treatment.
If I am noticing Focus Score improvement, can I combine with other treatment strategies to amplify ADHD symptom management in daily life?
Research shows that treating ADHD with multiple strategies at once leads to greater symptom relief. You’re developing a better cognitive foundation with EndeavorOTC, which will make you more effective at managing ADHD symptoms in your daily life. Even if other strategies may not have worked before, once you have measurable progress in your Focus Score, you may have better success with other symptom management options. Keep an eye out for evidence-based tips and strategies for managing ADHD symptoms in between missions and through EndeavorOTC support channels.

Who are the makers of EndeavorOTC?
EndeavorOTC is made by Akili, a company that specializes in personalized digital therapeutics designed to improve cognitive impairments such as focus and attention. Our innovative treatments look and feel like high-end video games, but unlike video games, they’re built on decades of neuroscience and proprietary technology that treat sources in the brain involved with disorders such as ADHD. In addition to EndeavorOTC, Akili also offers an FDA-authorized pediatric prescription product for ADHD, EndeavorRx. Learn more about EndeavorRx and its Indications for Use at EndeavorRx.com.
How is EndeavorOTC different from non-therapeutic video games?
EndeavorOTC was designed specifically to challenge a player’s focus by requiring them to manage several challenging tasks at once. This algorithm changes the pathways of the brain, improving attention. The game also adapts in real time, getting harder as the player gets better, to continually challenge their skills and enhance their concentration. It’s screen time built for boosting brain power.
